Two guides, one town

The questions are different. So the guides are too.

A relocating family and a retiring couple are both moving to Babcock Ranch — but they’re not asking the same questions. Pick the guide that matches your story.

For relocating families

Moving kids, jobs, and a household across state lines.

This guide walks through the questions that come up in the first call with every relocating family — grounded in what’s actually true about Babcock Ranch, not brochure copy.

  • Schools: the tuition-free K-12 charter pathway, how the curriculum works, and how enrollment actually gets decided
  • Moving logistics: a realistic timeline for an out-of-state move, from offer to first day of school
  • Cost of living: an honest comparison to where you’re coming from, including HOA and insurance specifics
  • Neighborhoods: which ones actually suit a family budget and commute, and which are priced for something else

A closer look

Babcock Schools, in plain terms

Babcock Neighborhood School (K-8)

Opened in 2017 alongside the community itself. It runs on a GreenSTEAM model — science, technology, engineering, arts, math, and environmental awareness — built around Project-Based Learning rather than traditional lecture instruction.

Babcock High School (9-12)

Opened in August 2022, continuing the same Project-Based Learning approach into high school, with dual enrollment options, football through track & field athletics, and college and career preparation built into the curriculum.

Tuition-free, but not automatic

Babcock Schools are public charter schools through the Charlotte County School District — tuition-free, but enrollment isn’t guaranteed by residency alone. When demand exceeds capacity, admission runs through a lottery, so it’s worth confirming current availability directly with the school rather than assuming a spot.

What’s coming next

Babcock Ranch has announced plans for a future Florida Gulf Coast University academic presence within the community, focused on sustainability, resiliency, and innovation — one more sign education keeps expanding here, not just housing.

For retirees & those moving to a smaller home

A life that’s easier to live, in a home that’s easier to care for.

This guide covers what actually matters when you’re moving into a new community, sight unseen, from another state.

  • Low-maintenance living: the resort-style, amenity-rich neighborhoods that work best for retirees — most with no age restriction
  • Healthcare access: who’s actually on the ground here now, from Lee Health to Tampa General, and the regional hospitals beyond
  • Staying social: clubs, golf carts, and how easy it actually is to build a circle here
  • Your move, simplified: a clear, step-by-step plan for getting from your current home to your next one, from out of state
